Description

These healthy air fryer churro bites are crispy on the outside, soft inside, and coated in warm cinnamon sugar. A lighter version of the classic churro, made without deep-frying, and ready in under 20 minutes!


Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour (or whole wheat flour)
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 2 tbsp sugar (or coconut sugar/monk fruit)
  • 1 egg (or flax egg for vegan)
  • ⅓ cup unsweetened applesauce (or Greek yogurt)
  • ¼ cup milk (dairy or plant-based)
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract
  • Olive oil spray (for air fryer basket)

Cinnamon Sugar Coating:

  • ¼ cup sugar (or monk fruit sweetener)
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Preheat Air Fryer to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, and sugar.
  3. In another bowl, whisk egg, applesauce, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  4. Add wet ingredients to dry ingredients and mix into a soft dough.
  5. Roll dough into small bite-sized balls (about 1 tablespoon each).
  6. Spray the air fryer basket with olive oil. Place dough balls in a single layer.
  7. Air fry for 7–8 minutes, flipping halfway, until golden brown.
  8. While warm, toss churro bites in cinnamon-sugar mixture.
  9. Serve immediately with chocolate or caramel dipping sauce.

Notes

  • Do not overcrowd the air fryer basket—cook in batches.
  • Use parchment liners for easier cleanup.
  • For extra crispy bites, spray lightly with oil before air frying.
  • Best enjoyed warm and fresh!
